Wayfinding Signage That Helps Visitors Find Their Way
Wayfinding is a system, not a set of signs. It starts at the entrance or car park and follows a visitor's route: where am I, where do I go next, and have I arrived? When one step is missing, people stop and ask, which frustrates visitors and staff alike.
The most useful thing you can send is a floor plan with the main destinations marked. From there we can talk through where decisions happen, how much information each sign needs, and how to keep wording, arrows and colours consistent throughout.
Typical applications
Office and mixed-use buildings
Lobby directories, lift-lobby signs and floor-level directional signs.
Clinics and healthcare
Clear routes to departments, rooms and exits for visitors who may be stressed or unfamiliar with the building.
Malls and venues
Directional signs, maps and zone markers for large, busy spaces.
Car parks
Level markers, exit routes and pedestrian directions, often painted or mounted on columns.
Events and temporary routes
Freestanding directional signs that guide guests from arrival to the main space.

Questions
Where should wayfinding signs be placed?
At every point where a visitor has to choose a direction: entrances, lift lobbies, corridor junctions and stair cores. Confirmation signs at the destination help too. A floor plan helps us map these points.
Should wayfinding use icons or words?
Usually both. Familiar icons for toilets, lifts and exits help people who don't read the language well, while words are needed for department and room names.
Can wayfinding be updated when tenants change?
It helps to design directories with replaceable panels or inserts, so a tenant change doesn't mean replacing a whole sign. Tell us which information is likely to change.
